ABSTRACT

With the pandemic, the European Union reconfigures the need to raise levels of digital training, as well as to improving digital skills and competences. The emergency remote teaching increased the challenges and inequalities among the most disadvantaged, led them to learn how to learn for themselves, it means to learn to be competent, to be autonomous through a work plan, to receive and consider feedback to improve. The objective of this study is to inventory and articulate knowledge about emergency remote teaching, more specifically, to answer the question: in the context of the covid-19 pandemic, which pedagogical practices were most friendly for learning and succeed in basic education? To conduct this study, the methodology was quantitative. We constructed and applied online a questionnaire near teachers of basic education (n = 377). The questionnaire was composed of multiple-choice and open-ended questions. Data were processed using SPSS (Social Package for Social Sciences), version 27 and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The main results suggest that teachers considered that they need to change pedagogical practices, designing "new” pedagogical scenarios, teaching and learning strategies for motivating pupils and evaluating competences through the use of emergency remote teaching. Despite this effort and awareness of the need for change, the performance culture was still predominant. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

Passenger comfort systems such as Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning units (HVACs) usually lack the data monitoring quality enjoyed by mission-critical systems in trains. But climate change, in addition to the high ventilation standards enforced by authorities due to the COVID pandemic, have increased the importance of HVACs worldwide. We propose a machine learning (ML) approach to the challenge of failure detection from incomplete data, consisting of two steps: 1. human-annotation bootstrapping, on a fraction of temperature data, to detect ongoing functional loss and build an artificial ground truth (AGT);2. failure prediction from digital-data, using the AGT to train an ML model based on failure diagnose codes to foretell functional loss. We exercise our approach in trains of Dutch Railways, showing its implementation, ML-predictive capabilities (the ML model for the AGT can detect HVAC malfunctions online), limitations (we could not foretell failures from our digital data), and discussing its application to other assets. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

The existence of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) during the COVID-19 pandemic really helps retirees to increase their learning capacity and stay productive. The purpose of the study was to analyze the role of ICT in the relationship between self-directed capability learning, heutagogy and productivity for retirees. The research method uses a causal study. Data was collected through a survey using a questionnaire to 140 employees of Bank Rakyat Indonesia who had participated in entrepreneurship training in preparation for retirement who were randomly selected. Data analysis using path analysis. The results showed that an important stage in learning heutagogy is understanding learning to learn. Availability of ICT as a resource used to support the learning process independently to encourage the productivity of retirees. Retirees learn to independently design ICT learning needs and activities as hands-on experience-based learning practices. ICT makes it easier for retirees to identify the skills and competencies needed, network expansion to strengthen feedback through the community, self-reflection related to the learning process and increase output in the form of skills and understanding of the meaning of learning. ICT supports capacity building for independent learning that can boost productivity. © 2021 IEEE
